CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville High Wildcats ran their winning streak to six games with a 12-0 victory at Kenwood Tuesday night.
CHS is now 9-2 overall and 3-1 in District 10-AAA play. With the loss, Kenwood sits at 1-7 and 0-4 in the district.
“We feel good about where we’re at right now,” Wildcats coach Brian Hetland said. “We’ve taken care of business the last two days, and beat some pretty good teams those previous four games. Our pitchers have been getting some good work, and we’re swinging the bats really well.”
Teal Young picked up the win for Clarksville High. The junior lefty threw three innings, allowing only one hit and striking out two.
“We wanted to have Teal this weekend, there was no sense in extending him after we got a big lead,” Hetland said.
Wildcats sophomores Kurt Thomack and Colton Reeves each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Dalton Claxton took the loss for Kenwood. The senior lefty lasted 1 1/3 innings, giving up four earned runs and striking out one.
Despite only four hits, the Wildcats were able to score 12 runs, mainly because of 15 walks and seven wild pitches by the Knights’ pitching staff.
“We swung at some bad pitches, but our offensive efficiency was solid,” Hetland said. “We ran the bases well and took advantage of what we could.”
CHS scored at least two runs every inning.
Luke Chilcutt had three of Clarksville High’s four hits. The junior reached base a total of four times, drove in two runs, and stole four bases.
Junior Kendall Tyrell finished with a walk and two runs batted in for CHS.
Sophomore Pablo Ruelas had the only hit for Kenwood. Only three other Knights reached base.
Clarksville plays a doubleheader at Stewart’s Creek High School on Friday. They play Houston High the first game and Stewart’s Creek in the second.
“We’re really going to get a test this weekend,” Hetland said. “Houston High School was in the preseason national rankings in one poll, and we play a tough Stewart’s Creek team out of Murfreesboro.”
Kenwood plays a three game tournament at White House Heritage this weekend.
